How we protect your data
As of 30 October 2026
Your letter is private. Here is an honest look at what happens to it, step by step.
- You take a photo of the letter. At first the photo only exists on your phone.
- The photo goes to our server, encrypted. On the way it is protected by HTTPS. Nothing is blacked out. The whole photo is needed so the explanation is right.
- Our server passes the photo on to Anthropic’s AI.This connection is encrypted too. Anthropic is a provider based in the USA. The legal basis for this is in the privacy policy.
- You get the explanation. It stays on our server for 1 hour at most, so the app can deliver it to you. Then it is deleted.
- We do not store letters. Our AI provider does not use them for training and, as a rule, deletes them after 30 days at the latest.
What does not happen
- We do not sell data.
- We do not build advertising profiles from your letters.
- We do not read your letters ourselves. Only if you voluntarily send us feedback or a photo do we see what you send.
What else is stored
- When read aloud: the audio file stays cached for up to 30 days so it is back faster. Addresses and numbers are replaced by words before reading, and the voice service deletes its history right away.
- When shared: the shared explanation is kept encrypted with us for 30 days. Only the link contains the key, not our server.
- To protect against misuse we count requests per device and internet address. The counters are deleted after 2 days at the latest. This includes a device ID for support and subscription.
To be honest
The photo can contain personal details, for example a name, an address or a file number. They go to the AI too, because the explanation needs them. If you do not want to share something, cover it before you take the photo. How we handle data is described in the privacy policy.
