Accessibility statement
Last updated: 22 October 2026
Letter Explained should be easy to use for everyone, including people with disabilities and people who speak little German. As a micro-enterprise we are not required to provide accessibility under the German Accessibility Act (section 3(3) BFSG). We nevertheless voluntarily follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA.
What we do
- Texts in plain language, in many languages and, on request, in very simple German.
- Legible type, strong contrast, large buttons (at least 44 pixels high).
- The pages can be enlarged and used with the keyboard. A skip link leads straight to the content, and the keyboard focus is clearly visible.
- Headings, image descriptions and controls are marked up for screen readers.
- The videos have subtitles in all 12 languages. If you turn off motion on your device, the pages show no animations.
- The app works with the accessibility features of iPhone and Android, such as VoiceOver and TalkBack, follows your phone’s font size and can read explanations aloud.
What is not yet accessible
- The PDF files (flyers, posters, terms for organisations, press kit) are not yet tagged for screen readers. Their contents are also available as text on the website.
- The videos have subtitles but no audio description and no sign language.
- The privacy policy and the terms of use are available in full only in German and English. In the other languages, the “At a glance” box appears in that language above the English text.
- We have checked contrast, keyboard use and screen readers ourselves, not yet with people who use these aids every day.
How we checked: self‑assessment, October 2026. There has been no review by an independent body yet.
